Mimico had their last regular season home game at Mimico Arena on Sunday night June the 21st...The Father's Day affair saw the Mountaineers complete the 4 game regular season sweep of the visitng Tomahawks, winning by the slimmest of margins. Mimico will close out the 2009 regular season on the road versus a potential first round playoff opponent, the Newmarket Saints. Newmarket is a lock in the 4th position in the Eastern Conference. Mimico is in 5th position, but could fall to 6th, if they lose tomorrow night to the Saints and the Cornwall Celtics defeat the Nepean Knights. A third potential playoff opponent is the Glocester Griffins....if Glocester loses their remaining game, Cornwall could leap-frog them as well with a win....stay posted for updates. As most of your are aware, the City of Toronto workers are now on strike and the Mountaineers are without a home...Plans are in the works for playoff games at a City of Mississauga facility, or a private, board of management run facility in the City of Toronto. Once we know our first round opponent arrangements can be made and we will advise our fans accordingly.

MIMICO TO PLAY HOST TO CANADA IN 2010
|
Updated 5/29/2009
|
The Mimico Mountaineers are very proud to announce that they have been given the honour and priviledge to host the 2010 Founders Cup - The Canadian Junior B Lacrosse Championships. Mimico was awarded the right to present the bid at the Canadian Lacrosse Association Annual Conference this weekend in Calgary, Alberta, after a successful presentation at the OLA Junior B Council meeting in March 2009.
Mr. Dave Vernon, Commissioner of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse Council, represented Mimico and the Ontario Jr B League at this meeting. Mr. Vernon called Sean O'Callaghan, Head Coach and General Manager earlier today to relay the good news.
Mimico previously hosted the Founders Cup in 1997, which was an extremely successful and memorable event. The Double Blue narrowly missed the finals, dropping a 7-6 overtime thriller to the eventual champions, the Six Nations Red Rebels. The tentative dates for this tournament will be August 17th to the 22nd, 2010. The popularity of this tournament has increased over the years, and we can anticipate participation from eight to twelve teams from across Canada. We will have further details regarding this outstanding event of lacrosse as they come available.

Boxscore - Markham@Mimico 5.21.09 The Mountaineers led 7-4 going into the third and could not hold the lead and took some untimely penalties that attributed to the loss. On Friday night, it was a slow start in the first that put the M's behind the 8 ball right away, down 6-2 after the first...the second and third were much closer but the slow start proved to be the difference in the game Boxscore - Halton Hills @Mimico 5.22.09 Mimico falls to 3 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw on the season....they have almost a week to regroup, as their next 3 games are on the road, Thursday the 28th at Mississauga, Sunday May 31st vs Markham, and back to Missy on Monday June 1st....The Mounties need to knock off some wins to gain some confidence back and momentum as they hit the halfway point of the regular season.

Gaels Drop Mimico
|
Updated 5/15/2009
|
The sub-par performances to start the 2009 continue for the Mimico Mountaineers as they dropped their 2nd decision of the season to the undefeated Clarington Green Gaels by a score of 17-5. The Mounties controlled the ball and play on the first possession, and continued to pick up loose balls until they tallied the first marker of the game...At the end of one period of play, the score was tied at 2 . Mimico then got into penalty trouble again, resulting in successive power play markers by the Gaels. The onslaught continued and ended up in a lop-sided victory for the Gaels, and an unispired effort by the double blue. A description of the play by the Mountaineers include phrases such as "not willing to pay the price", and "they wanted the win more that we did", summmarized the evening for the boys in Blue. They have to get out of their funk quickly, or they will find themselves diggin' out of a deep hole quickly, looking up at their division rivals. Not much time to dwell on tonight's performance, the Markham Ironheads visit the MIM tomorrow night, May the 15th @ 8pm, in one of those early, "must wins". Markham is sporting a 6-1-1 record, good for 2nd place in the division. Come on out to Mimico Arena to support your local team and see some great lacrosse action to start off your long weekend.
